Cocaine valued at $1 million washes up on Florida beach following storm
Over $1 million (£782,000) worth of cocaine washed up on a Florida Keys beach during the recent Storm Debby.
The US Border Patrol reported that a "good Samaritan" discovered the packages containing 32 kg (79 lbs) of the drug and notified authorities.
The beachgoer who found the package discovered it wrapped in a bin bag amid seaweed, leaves, and other debris.
Storm Debby made landfall in the US as a Category 1 hurricane on Monday morning, with winds exceeding 80 miles per hour.
It has since been downgraded to a tropical storm and is expected to bring rain and flooding as it moves north toward Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
Drugs frequently wash up on southern Florida beaches and surrounding waters as smugglers traffic the substances from South America to the US.
